2019-08-01

The Sebel Mandurah is thrilled to announce the appointment of new General Manager, Rebecca Davis, who joined The Sebel team on 29 July 2019.

With years of experience and a true passion for her customers, we hope you'll enjoy getting to know Rebecca with our General Manager Q&A. Be sure to say hello to her during your stay in Mandurah.

Q&A WITH HOTEL GENERAL MANAGER, REBECCIA DAVIS

Welcome to the team! How are you finding our beautiful city of Mandurah? Have you been having fun exploring?
Thanks for the welcome – it has been fantastic getting to know the area. I haven’t gotten out just yet exploring too much, but I have made it to the local coffee shop!

We know you’ve had a long career with Accor. Can you tell us about your career history leading up to your appointment as General Manager at The Sebel?
I started with Accor in August 2008 working at the Novotel Sydney Darling Harbour. From there, the company has allowed me the opportunity to move around different hotels but different roles as well. This has meant that I was able to return to Canberra (where I am originally from) for seven years and work over several roles and hotels. I’ve been able to explore outback South Australia in most recent years and now am over here on the west coast.

How did your career in hospitality start? What (or who!) inspired you?
I fell into the world of hotels during year 10 work experience, and have never looked back. We can thank a school friend of mine, who allowed me to join her at Rydges Lakeside in Canberra, as I had just moved back to Australia after living overseas with my family and needed to find a placement for work experience very quickly.

As you’ve gotten to know the hotel and hotel team, what do you think makes The Sebel one of Mandurah’s best hotels?
It’s certainly the warmth and welcome from the team - that genuine connection.

What do you love most about being a hotel General Manager?
That I learn so many different things from the people I have met along the way.

Who has been the most interesting guest you’ve taken care of?
To this day I can still recall a gentleman I checked in at Novotel Darling Harbour 10+ years ago when I was a Receptionist. When asked what brought him to Sydney, he explained to me that a year ago that day, he had suffered a stroke and the milestone it was to be able to stand in front of me and check his family into the hotel. The level of pride that he had for himself for the accomplishment of checking in his family affected me tremendously.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in a career in hospitality?
Give me a call, more than happy to chat!

As one of Accor’s female general managers, what advice would you give to other women who’d like to follow in your footsteps?
That the support of family and friends will take you places! I also believe it is imperative to take the side road - my path to General Manager has certainly not been a straight line but it has been so rewarding.
